Bob Ward is in his 21st year as Fisher’s director of intercollegiate athletics. In 2001, Ward stepped down as the Fisher men’s basketball coach to focus solely on his administrative duties. As the Cardinals’ coach, Ward compiled a record of 261-106, including eight NCAA Division III Championship appearances, three ECAC Upstate New York Championships and four Chase Scholarship Tournament titles.
His .711 winning percentage ranks him 16th all-time among NCAA Division III coaches, and his 1998-99 squad went 24-1 during the regular season. As the College’s athletic director, Ward has overseen the construction of Growney Stadium and Dugan Yard, as well as a 19,000-square foot addition to the Student Life Center. In his tenure, Fisher has added football, baseball and men’s and women’s lacrosse and women's golf, giving the College 14 Division III athletic programs.
After working on his master's degree at the United States Sports Academy in Alabama, he returned to Rochester in the early ‘80s as an assistant at Nazareth College, where he coached Jeff Van Gundy, later the head coach of the New York Knicks. Ward moved across town to Rochester Institute of Technology to coach under the tutelage of current Johns Hopkins University coach Bill Nelson.
After a stint at George Mason University alongside current University of Texas coach Rick Barnes and Penn State coach Jerry Dunn, Ward returned to Rochester in 1987 to take over the Fisher program from Hall-of-Famer Bobby Wanzer. Ward currently serves on the selection committee for the NCAA Division III East Region and is entering his fourth year as the Chairman of the ECAC Upstate Men’s Basketball Selection Committee. He is also a member of the Empire 8 Conference’s governing body and serves as the First Vice President.
