St. John Fisher College Evaluation of Coaching Performance


Purpose:
The purpose of this evaluation is to aid your coach in becoming more effective. A candid appraisal on your part of his/her strengths and weaknesses will assist in this process. A space for additional comments is provided at the end of this form.
 
Instructions:
• Your assessment should be only for the season just completed
• Rate the coach’s ability 1 through 5 on each item. A number N/A signifies the item does not apply to your situation.


For each of the following items, rate the coach’s ability on a 1-5 scale.

1=Strongly Disagree
2=Disagree
3=Neutral
4=Agree
5=Strongly Agree

I. Character and Ethical Conduct
Holds high ethical standards and attempts to apply high standards to treatment of players.
Sets a good example in terms of personal behavior and habits
Is a person of principle without being self-righteous

II. Relationship with Players:
Makes decisions with welfare of entire team in mind
Makes genuine attempt to be impartial and fair
Is able to motivate players to achieve
Inspires confidence in his/her system and the ability to teach it
Is able to exercise discipline without being overly authoritarian
Has ability to resolve differences between players
Listens to players’ comments and suggestions
Displays sense of humor and serious-mindedness in proper proportions
Is enthusiastic
Is unselfish
Presents a professional appearance

III. Knowledge of Sport and Ability to Communicate Knowledge:
Is able to demonstrate or provide for proper demonstration of various techniques
Is able to effectively detect flaws in player’s technique
Is positive in suggestions for improving player’s technique
Is generous in praise of good performance and genuine effort
Explains clearly and convincingly his/her reason for using a given system
Is patient in repeating explanations
Displays insight in placing personnel effectively in positions
Makes effective use of teaching aids

IV. Organization and Administration of program:
Shows evidence that program has been organized well in advance of season
Practice sessions follow a logical progression and are meaningful
Practice sessions are kept at reasonable length
Team trips are well planned
Exercises responsibility in providing and caring for equipment

V. Stability and Performance Under Pressure:
Keeps a clear head in game situations
Displays a manner that includes courtesy, confidence and firmness
Is skillful at adjusting team’s effort to counter unexpected moves by opponent
Has players under control in terms of behavior in, and immediately following, game situations
