The St. John Fisher College baseball team split a doubleheader with Muhlenberg on Saturday afternoon in Limestone, PA. With the split Fisher moves to 7-4 on the season.
Game One - - Fisher 5 - Muhlenberg 2:
Dan Jurik improved his record to 3-0 on the season with a 5-2 victory over Muhlenberg in the first game of the doubleheader. The senior pitched six innings only giving up six hits and two earned runs while striking out 10 batters. Classmate Geoff Martone finished the effort for the Cardinals in the seventh, taking the mound and striking out for his first save of the year.
At the plate Marc Montesano was 2-for-3 with a run scored and a RBI while classmates Steve Karnyski and Teagen Barresi both were 2-for-4. Karnyski also added a run scored and a RBI. Jon Gibbs, Leo Fusilli and Phil Pettinella each pitched in a hit in the game.
Game Two - - Fisher 8 - Muhlenberg 10:
Despite owning a 5-1 lead heading into the bottom of the seventh inning, the Cardinals could not hold on for the win, giving up a three-run seventh and a six-run eighth. Senior Brandon Lewis picked up the loss on the day, falling to 1-1 on the season while only giving up two earned runs. Fisher only gave up three earned runs on the day with Andrew Van Slyke getting the nod and going four innings only giving up three hits and an earned run while fanning three Muhlenberg hitters.
Montesano and Barresi continued their good fortunes at the plate, each registering three hits in the effort. Barresi scored twice while driving in two runs and Montesano crossed the plate three times. Gibbs added two hits with an RBI and two runs scored. Ryan Shaughnessy earned a hit, a run scored and a RBI in the game.
Fisher will return to action Wednesday when it hosts SUNY Brockport at Dugan Yard for its home-opener at 3 p.m.
