Three members of the St. John Fisher College women’s basketball team have been honored by the Empire 8 Conference.
Colleen Maloney was named the Empire 8 Second Team, while
Mary Kate Comfort earned Honorable Mention status.
Kristi Jeffres was tabbed as Fisher’s representative for Empire 8’s Sportswoman of the Year.
Fisher finished the 2009-2010 season with an overall record of 14-11 and advanced to the postseason for the 34th time in the program’s 36-year history. It was also the 34th time the Cardinals have enjoyed a winning season.
Maloney led the Cardinals in scoring this season with 15.0 points per game, good for third in the Empire 8 in scoring. The junior also ranked second in the Empire 8 in both 3-pointers made (47) and 3-point shooting percentage (37.3%). She also led Fisher in field goal percentage (45.5%) and free throw percentage (78.6%).
Comfort tied for the team-lead with 20 blocked shots. She also ranked second on the team in scoring (9.6 points per game) and rebounding (4.7 boards per game). The senior finishes her four-year career with 991 points (21st all-time at Fisher).
Jeffres, a sophomore forward was named Fisher’s representative as Empire 8’s Sportswoman of the Year. The Empire 8 emphasizes that "Competing with Honor and Integrity" is an essential component of a student-athlete’s experience in conjunction with an institution’s educational mission. These honorees have distinguished themselves and consistently exhibit the critical traits as outstanding sportswomen.
Jeffres played in all 25 games, while making 13 starts. She finished the season averaging 6.1 points and 4.4 points, while ranking third on the team in blocked shots.
