Phil Pettinella drove in a late run but the Cardinals came up just short.
The St. John Fisher College baseball team fell to Thiel College 5-4 in a Monday afternoon game in Vero Beach, FL.

Fisher struck first in the game, scoring three runs in the top of the fifth inning. Senior Jon Gibbs walked which was followed by a Ben Bostick single to centerfield. With a swing of the bat Matt Klock smoked the ball into the right center gap and scored both men on base. Klock advanced to third on a fly ball by Brad Gass and then scored on a Jay Nevada single.

In the bottom of the sixth Thiel returned with a rally of its own, scoring five runs on six hits. This five run spot proved to be enough to hold off Fisher, as a late game rally came up just short.

Fisher got back on the board in the eigth inning when Nevada scored on a Phil Pettinella sacrifice fly.

The Cardinals got its first two runners on in the top of the ninth, Gibbs and Bostick, but failed to score a run to tie.

Fisher has a day off on Tuesday and will return to action on Wednesday when it faces Marywood (PA) in a doubleheader beginning at 12 p.m.
