Women's Basketball Takes Down Nazareth

The St. John Fisher College women’s basketball team picked up a 61-46 win over visiting Nazareth College on Tuesday night in an Empire 8 Conference matchup.
 
With the win, Fisher improves to 10-8 overall and 5-5 in the Empire 8 Conference, while the Golden Flyers fall to 9-9, 3-6.
 
Nazareth led 3-2 after nearly six minutes of action, but Fisher took a 25-16 lead into the locker room. Both teams struggled in the shooting department, as Fisher converted on just 8-of-31 shots in the first half (25.8%), while the Golden Flyers made just three field goals over the opening 19 minutes and shot 4-for-25 (16.0%) for the first half.
 
Fisher quickly pushed its nine-point lead to double-digits, opening the second half with a 6-0 spurt over the first 64 seconds of the final frame. 
 
Nazareth’s Rachel Pirozzolo made it 34-20 Fisher with 16:52 left, but the Golden Flyers wouldn’t score a basket for a span of over 15 minutes when Brittany Wilson’s 3-pointer with 1:38 left made it 51-36.

For Fisher, Colleen Maloney scored a team-best 12 points.   Kristen Taliento snagged eight rebounds, while Stephanie Sweeney finished with five steals.

For Nazareth, Wilson led her team with 20 points. The Golden Flyers shot 9-for-46 (19.6%) from the floor, including 4-for-16 from 3-point range. Nazareth’s points came from the charity stripe, totaling 24 points for the game.
 
As a team, Fisher shot 30.8% from the floor and 75.0% from the foul line. 
 
Fisher will return to action on Friday when the host Stevens Institute of Technology at 6 p.m.
