Men's Basketball Soars Past Elmira

The St. John Fisher College men’s basketball team jumped out to a 13-2 lead over the opening five minutes and never looked back, as the Cardinals cruised to 75-47 win over visiting Elmira College on Tuesday.

With the win, Fisher improves to 13-3 overall and 7-0 in the Empire 8. It is the ninth victory for Fisher in its last 10 games. 

The Cardinals led 39-21 at intermission and pushed its lead to over 30 points at 58-27 eight minutes into the final frame.

Michael Wopperer was one of two players in double figures for the Cardinals, finishing with a team-high 17 points, while Jordan Koch totaled 10 points and three blocked shots.

Matt Newman added nine points, eight rebounds and four assists, while Brandon Witte and Jason Norsen each came off the bench and finished with eight points.  Connor Henderson led Fisher with nine rebounds.

Freshman Devin Hahn chipped in with five points and four rebounds (both career-highs).

Fisher will return action at 8 p.m. on Friday at Ithaca, before returning home to host Hartwick College on Friday.

The men's basketball team erupts for 101 points and wins 101-65 over visiting SUNY Oswego.  The Cardinals led 47-26 at the half and 10 different players scored in the win with Rudy Rivera's 25 points leading the way.
