Seventh-Inning Surge Pushes Baseball Past Brockport
Head coach Dan Pepicelli's Cardinals earned a 10-8 comeback win over Brockport on Friday.
The St. John Fisher College baseball team used a four-run seventh inning to overcome a two-run deficit and pick up a 10-8 win over College at Brockport in the opening game of the ECAC Upstate Championship at SUNY Fredonia on Friday.

Fisher (20-17) will take on No. 1 Fredonia at 12:30 p.m. tomorrow.  The host Blue Devils advanced with a 12-0 win over No. 4 Cazenovia.

Teagen Baresi started the spurt off with a single, and came around to score when John Quartironi reached on an error, cutting the lead to just one run. Two batters later, junior Kevin Wing worked the count and drew a bases-loaded walk to tie the game. With the score knotted up at eight, Phil Pettinella’s sacrifice fly was enough to score Quartironi, before Steve Karnyski brought in another run to give Fisher a lead that would hold up for good.

Barresi went 3-for-4 with two runs scored to lead the Cardinals, while Pettinella was 2-for-4 with three RBI and two runs scored. Brandon Lewis threw seven outs in relief to pickup the win, with Peter Krysztof earning the save after striking out three batters in the ninth. Mike Craig struck out six batters over six and one-third innings, but received the no decision.

After the Golden Eagles erased a 3-0 Fisher lead with runs in the third and fourth innings, the Cardinals jumped back out in front, 6-3, behind RBI hits from Phil Pettinalla and Leo Fusilli. Fisher’s lead was short-lived though, as Brockport regained the lead again with five runs to take an 8-6 lead.
