Men's Tennis Trio Highlights All-Conference Selections

The Empire 8 Conference has named three members of the St. John Fisher College men’s tennis team to its annual All-Conference team.
The senior duo of Karl Schiefer and Mike O’Connor were given Honorable Mention for their doubles competition, while classmate Jack Forrest was picked to represent the Cardinals on the Sportsman of the Year team.
Schiefer and O’Connor posted a 6-2 record against a tough field of Empire 8 Conference competitors this season, and closed out their careers with a combined overall mark of 10-8. The pair went a perfect 2-0 at both first and third doubles and won each of their last four matches.
After posting an 11-6 mark in doubles action, and adding five more wins on the singles side, Forrest was named to the Sportsman of the year Team. One member of each team was named that institution’s representative on the 2009 team. Empire 8 emphasizes that "Competing with Honor and Integrity" is an essential component of a student-athlete’s experience in conjunction with an institution’s educational mission. These honorees have distinguished themselves and consistently exhibit the critical traits as outstanding sportsmen.
Fisher finished the season with a 7-12 record, including 4-4 in Empire 8 matches. Although the Cardinals won their last three matches to end the season, Fisher suffered three separate spans in which the team lost three or more matches.
