The United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association has named
Dave Wood of the St. John Fisher College men’s lacrosse program to its Division III All-American Second Team as a short stick specialist.
Wood, Fisher's first All-American in men's lacrosse, finished his senior season ranking second in NCAA Division III in faceoff percentage (.706) with 211 wins in 299 attempts.
He also ranked third nationally in ground balls per game with 9.5 and finished the season with a 152 ground balls (a Fisher single-season record). His outstanding season also earned him a spot on the Empire 8 Conference First Team.
The faceoff specialist had a career game on April 15, against East Avenue-rival Nazareth College. Wood, finished the game winning 24 of 28 faceoffs and collecting 16 ground balls to lead the Cardinals to a 13-12 victory. The 24 faceoff wins and 16 ground balls are both Fisher single-game records.
Wood, a three-time All-Conference pick and a preseason All-American, already owned the College record for ground balls and faceoff win percentage, but the senior increased his lead in both categories and closed out his decorated career with a .659 faceoff win percentage (739-of-1,122) and 513 total ground balls.
Fisher is coming off its best season in the program’s eight-year history with a 15-3 record and an appearance in the Empire 8 Championship game. It is the fourth straight year the Cardinals have set a new College record for wins in a season.
