11th-Inning Single Lifts Softball to Win in E8 Championship
Kelly Jones singled in the game-winning run in the first game of the 2009 Empire 8 Softball Championship.
Freshman Kelly Jones came through with a clutch RBI single in the 11th inning to give the No. 2 St. John Fisher College softball team (28-9) a 3-2 win over third-seeded Alfred University in the opening game of the Empire 8 Softball Championship.

The Saxons broke a scoreless tie in the fourth with a homerun to left field, but pitcher Amanda Shevchuk held steady from then on.  The Cardinals plated runs in the sixth and seventh to tie the game, before Jones ended the game with the walk-off single.

The senior hurler threw all 11 innings to improve to 14-5 on the year. She fanned six batters and surrendered just one walk in the complete-game effort.

Fisher will take on the winner of the No. 1 Ithaca College No. 4 RIT matchup at 4 p.m.
