2009 mlax team
The St. John Fisher College men's lacrosse team jumped out to 5-0 lead, but needed a 5-0 run midway through the second half to secure a 12-7 win over host Utica College on Saturday.  With the win, Fisher improves to 14-2 overall and 6-2 in the Empire 8 Conference and will be the No. 3 seed in next week's Empire 8 Conference Championship.  Fisher will play on Friday at the loser of tonight's Ithaca at Stevens Institute of Technology game.

Fisher jumped out to a 5-0 lead after the first quarter, but the Pioneers rallied and scored the game's next three goals.   Jeff Price gave Fisher a 6-3 lead going into the second half, but the Pioneers scored the first two goals of the second half and trailed by just one goal at 6-5 with 8:37 left in the third quarter.

Fisher answered quickly though as Dave Wood won the ensuing faceoff and fed Chris Schmidt, who scored at 8:25, starting a 5-0 spurt that put the game out of reach.

Wood led Fisher with 11 ground balls and won 17-of-22 faceoffs.   Schmidt led Fisher with four goals and one assist, while Dave Malone tallied four points on two goals and two assists.

Price totaled two goals and one assist, while Connor Henderson finished with one goal and one assist.

Jon Cortina stopped seven shots over 60 minutes to earn the win in net.
