Women's Basketball Wins ECAC Championship!

Tournament MVP Colleen Maloney tallied 17 points and four stealsto lead No. 4 St. John Fisher College to a 60-44 win over No. 2 Ithaca College on Saturday at SUNY Cobleskill in the finals of the ECAC Upstate Championship.

The win marks Fisher's fourth ECAC title since 1999 and the program's third this decade.  The win was also Fisher's third victory over Ithaca this season.

Fisher held the Bombers to 22 points in each half and forced Ithaca to shoot 28.6% from the field.  The Cardinals forced 27 turnovers and snagged 43 rebounds, including 21 offensive boards.

Fisher led 26-22 at halftime and went on 9-2 run over the opening 2:29 to take a double-digit lead at 35-24.

 

Ithaca trailed by just six at 42-36 with just over 11 minutes, but the Cardinals went on a 16-4 run over the next seven minutes to pull away.

 

Maloney led the Cardinals with 17 points and four steals.  Mary Kate Comfort added 15 points, seven rebounds and three steals, while freshman Kristi Jeffres added 11 points.

 

Sophomore Stephanie Sweeney tallied eight assists, seven rebounds and four steals. Junior Kristen Taliento chipped in with a team-high eight rebounds.

The men's basketball team moves to 19-0 with a 87-76 win at R.I.T.  The Cardinals knocked down 10 3-pointers in the win, including seven in the first half.  Mike McGee scored 20 points in the win, while Nick Bennett added 19 points, 10 rebounds, four assists and four steals.
