Both the St. John Fisher College men’s and women’s basketball programs have earned bids to play in the ECAC Upstate Championships.

The men’s team is the No. 2 seed in the four-team tournament and will host No. 3 SUNY Oswego at 6 p.m. on Friday at Fisher’s Bobby Wanzer Court at Manning & Napier Varsity Gym. No. 1 SUNY Fredonia will play No. 4 Hartwick College at 8 p.m. on Friday at Fisher in the other semifinal game.   The two winners will play at Fisher at 2 p.m. on Saturday in the championship game.

This marks the 18th consecutive year that Fisher (16-9) has earned a postseason bid and is the 22nd straight season that the Cardinals have finished with a record of .500 or better. Over the last two decades, only three institutions have advanced to the NCAA Division III Championship more than Fisher.

On the women’s side, Fisher (16-10) is the No. 4 seed and will face host SUNY Cobleskill at 7 p.m. on Friday. No. 2 Ithaca College will play No. 3 SUNY Potsdam in the other semifinal game with Friday’s two winners playing in the championship game at 1 p.m. on Saturday.

Fisher, led by interim head coach Marianne O’Connor Ermi, has won three ECAC titles in the last 10 years. The Cardinals, who own an overall record of 713-185 over the program’s 35-year history, has advanced to the postseason 31 times.
