The American Volleyball Coaches Association has named St. John Fisher College volleyball coach
Kelly Greapentrog as a recipient of its inaugural Thirty-Under-30 Award.
Greapentrog, who will enter her third season at the helm of the College’s volleyball team in 2009, is one of just three honorees from NCAA Division III.This award was created to honor thirty of the up-and-coming volleyball coaches under 30 years old in the sport at all levels of the game. Although anyone could make a nomination, the nominee had to be an AVCA member, and had to be younger than 30 years old in 2009. The list of winners was announced in the February/March edition of Coaching Volleyball.
"Reading the biographies, accomplishments and philosophies of this group of award winners gives me confidence about the future of our game," said Kathy DeBoer, AVCA Executive Director. "Our rising stars are diverse, hard-working and passionate about teaching - good news for volleyball."
In her first two seasons, Greapentrog has improved the team’s record each year. In her first campaign, the Cardinals posted a 14-16 overall record, but won 12 of their final 16 matches to finish the season. Fisher kept the ball rolling in 2008 with a 22-13 overall mark, that included a berth in the Empire 8 Conference Championship and a showing in the ECAC Upstate Championship.
