Carlton set career highs in receiving yards and single-game touchdowns on Saturday.
St. John Fisher College’s senior running back Brad Carlton has earned awards for both his athletic performance and classroom successes this week. Carlton was named as the College’s Male Athlete of the Week after leading the Cardinals to a win over Springfield and was also recognized regionally as an ESPN the Magazine CoSIDA Academic All-American All-District First Team selection.

On Saturday, Carlton accounted for three of Fisher’s five touchdowns in the 34-7 win at Springfield. He led the team in both rushing and receiving in the game, setting career highs in single-game touchdowns and receiving yards. Carlton rushed 19 times for 80 yards and two touchdowns. He also added seven receptions for a career-high 106 yards and another touchdown.

Carlton has racked up impressive stats in his senior season so far. He’s on the top in receiving, leading the Cardinals with 38 receptions for 369 yards, and is second on the team in receiving touchdowns (2), rushing yards (339), rushing touchdowns (7), and total points scored (54).

Carlton also holds several top-ten career records. He ranks eighth all-time at Fisher in rushing attempts (325), eighth in rushing yards (1,424), and seventh in touchdowns (12).

In addition to his local honors, Carlton was recognized in the region, as he was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District 2009-10 First Team for his combined successes on the playing field as well as in the classroom. He has earned a 3.9 cumulative grade-point average over his three plus years at Fisher as a Computer Science major. Being named to the All-District Team qualifies Carlton for a chance at being named an All-American.

Fisher can clinch a share of the Empire 8 Conference title with a win at Hartwick College this Saturday at 4 p.m., but also needs Alfred University to lose to Utica College, to earn the automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championship. The Cardinals have won the Empire 8 title three times in the last five years.
