Luke Lennox earned several awards for both his athletic performances and his classroom successes this week. Lennox was named Player of the Week for both the Empire 8 and Fisher after leading the team in wins over SUNY Geneseo and Alfred University, and was also recognized nationally as a CoSIDA Academic All-District 2009-10 First Team selection.
On Wednesday, Lennox’s overtime penalty kick goal clinched the win for the Cardinals, as they defeated SUNY Geneseo 2-1. Lennox also recorded an assist against the Blue Knights.
On Saturday, Lennox led the Cardinals to a Halloween night victory, tallying a goal and two assists. The Cardinals defeated conference opponent Alfred 4-1.
In addition to his local honors, Lennox was recognized in the region, as he was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District 2009-10 First Team for his combined successes on the playing field as well as in the classroom. This season alone, Lennox has recorded six goals and six assists for a combined 18 points, leading the team and tying him at third in the Empire 8 in points. Lennox has maintained a 4.0 grade-point average in each semester at Fisher. Being named to the All-District Team qualifies Lennox for a chance at being named an All-American.
The Cardinals’ Empire 8 championship hopes depend on the outcome of their upcoming contest against host Elmira College, which will be replayed on Tuesday beginning at 7 p.m. With a win or draw, the Cardinals will advance to the semi-finals of the Championship, facing host Nazareth on Friday.
