The St. John Fisher College volleyball team battled back from several severe deficits to hand the Medaille College Mavericks a 3-1 loss in the opening round of the ECAC Tournament on Wednesday night at Manning and Napier Varsity Gym.

Fisher worked through the first game steadily, maintaining a slight lead throughout and clinching a close win, 25-23.  The Cardinals dropped the second game 21-25, before battling through multiple deficits in the next two to win the matches, 25-16 and 25-22.

Fisher was lead by Sydney Kandefer, who tallied 10 kills and seven blocks on the night.  Senior Elaina Braun chimed in with 23 assists, while fellow senior Jenna Waldron had a team-best 14 digs.

The Cardinals will continue play in the ECAC Tournament on Saturday.  Thursday's matches will determine the host of Saturday's play, Fisher and Elmira being the two contenders.
