The Empire 8 has released its selection for the 2009 All-Conference picks in volleyball. Four Fisher athletes garnered accolades. Seniors
Elaina Braun and
Jenna Waldron each earned Second Team honors, while
Sydney Kandefer was the lone Fisher athlete to make First Team All-Conference.
Amy Street was Fisher's representative as the Cardinals' Sportswoman of the Year.
Kandefer averaged 1.9 kills and 1.3 blocks per set in conference round robin action. The junior setter has recorded 197 kills this season alone so far, and ranks third in the Empire 8 with a 26.5% success rate. Kandefer is the only player in the Empire 8 to average over 1 block per game (1.08).
Braun, a Second Team selection, ranks eighth in the Empire 8 with the 114 assists she has tallied on this season so far. She also holds second place in hitting percentage, with a 30.4% success rate.
Waldron, the conference's first Libero/Defensive Specialist of the Year from 2008, earned Second Team honors this season. The senior ranks second in the Empire 8 in digs, and currently holds the College record for career digs with 1,930.
Street was named Fisher's representative as the Sportswoman of the Year. The Empire 8 emphasizes that "Competing with Honor and Integrity" is an essential component of a student-athlete’s experience in conjunction with an institution’s educational mission. These honorees have distinguished themselves and consistently exhibit the critical traits as outstanding sportswomen.
Fisher is currently 17-16 overall for its 2009 season. The Cardinals, 5-3 in Empire 8 matches, clinched the fourth and final seed in the Empire 8 Championship this past weekend when they went 4-0 in the second round of the Empire 8 Crossover held at Nazareth College.
