St. John Fisher College's
Paul Deckard has been honored by the Empire 8 Conference as the Football Offensive Player of the Week following Fisher's heartbreaking 31-28 loss against visiting Alfred University on Saturday.
Deckard had 10 receptions for a career-high 147 receiving yards, 75 yards more than his previous career high. His 147 receiving yards constituted almost half of the 315 passing yards of quarterback
Tim Bailey.
The senior also contributed three of Fisher’s four scores. He caught three touchdown passes, which tied him with three other players, Jeff Holbrook (1987), Noah Fehrenbach (2004 and 2005), and Jimmy Smith (2007), for the Fisher single game touchdown receptions record.
With his outstanding performance, Deckard leads Fisher in receiving touchdowns (3) and average receiving yards per game (44.5) for the season. He is second on the team in receptions (25) and receiving yards (267).
Deckard was also named Fisher's male athlete of the week ending October 25.
Fisher takes a break from action this weekend, and will return to play at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday November 7 when it travels to Massachusetts to face Springfield College at Stagg Field. The Cardinals have won the last three out of four over the Pride since 2006, including last year's meeting that saw the Cardinals pull out a 38-35 win at Growney Stadium, out-gaining the Pride 443-191.
