ECAC Northwest All-Star Team (pdf)
Three seniors from the St. John Fisher College football team have been named to the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Northwest All-Star Team.
Kenny Bostick made the squad as a defensive back, with
Andrew Cottet and
Tim Marion receiving offensive line and return specialist honors, respectively.
In his first year as a full-time starter, Bostick, a senior cornerback, led the team with four interceptions, and ranked second on the team with 70 tackles (37 solo), including four stops for loss. In the Cardinals 37-6 rout of Ithaca College, the D3football.com All-Region and Empire 8 First Team honoree made a team-leading 10 tackles and returned an interception 59 yards to set up a touchdown. He returned another interception 69 yards for a touchdown in Fisher’s win over Norwich University. Bostick finished his four-year career with 132 tackles (four for loss), six interceptions, and three fumble recoveries.
From his right tackle position on the offensive line, Cottet was a key part of Fisher’s offensive success this season. Behind solid blocking, the Cardinals ranked among the national leaders with 257.8 passing yards per game, and rushed for a combined 1,562 yards and 12 touchdowns on the year. Fisher, who ranked third in the Empire 8 with an average 29.7 points per contest, surpassed 400 yards of total offense five times, including a season-high 504 yards.
A standout kick returner (19.9 yards/return), Marion recorded at least 100 all-purpose yards in eight of Fisher’s eleven games this season, including a career-high 258 yards in the 36-33 overtime loss to Alfred where he totaled 14 receptions for 134 yards, three kick returns for 64 yards, and six punt returns for 60 yards. Marion, who was an all-purpose and special teams First Teamer, and made the All-Conference Second Team as a wide receiver, led the Cardinals this season in catches (51) yards (792) and touchdowns (seven), while also pacing the team with a conference-best 23 punt returns for 272 yards.
Despite a season-opening loss to perennial power Mount Union, and back-to-back home losses for the first time in four years, the Cardinals rallied for three straight wins down the stretch to claim a postseason berth for the sixth consecutive season. In the ECAC Northeast Championship Bowl, the Cardinals defeated Husson University 17-7 to finish the 2008 campaign with a 7-4 overall record.
