Athletic Department Improves Webcasting, Website
After reviewing the results of a summer poll, the St. John Fisher College Athletics Department now boasts several new features to its Athletics website.

Headlining the new features is an upgrade to the existing webcasting service. Several games were broadcast over the internet last year through Empire8.tv, but the $2 charge has been removed, and plans are in place to broadcast all games from Growney Stadium, and Manning & Napier Varsity Gym live, and free of charge over the internet. The College has also purchased software that will allow for the incorporation of graphics into the webcasts.

Users also have the option to subscribe to free text message updates through the site, and continue to have the option to subscribe to an e-newsletter. When signing up for text updates, users can select which sport or combination of sports they want to subscribe to, eliminating unwanted updates. Standard messaging rates apply. SIGN UP FOR: Newsletter | SMS (Text) Updates

The updated site also features enhanced rosters that link to game stories, like this one on women’s soccer player Ashley Martin (hover over the name), and enhanced schedules that contain the links for live stats, radio and television coverage, and even a weather forecast for the selected game. To view the schedule improvements, select a sport, click ‘Schedule’ in the right-hand sidebar, and click ‘Details’ for each individual game.

Sarah Stefanon
Women's Basketball

St. John Fisher College’s Sarah Stefanon (Perry/Perry) of the women’s basketball team has been named as the College’s Female Athlete of the Week for the week ending February 5, 2012.

In Friday’s 66-55 victory over the Utica Pioneers, Stefanon hit back-to-back shots

to spark a 13-4 run by the Cardinals, pushing them to their largest lead of 12 points. At the 9:36 mark of the contest, Stefanon hit a three pointer, which was followed by a jumper from the corner, giving the home team a seven-point advantage midway through the second half.  The first-year player finished with 10 points in the contest, after shooting 4-for-5 from the field and 100% from behind the arc.  She also came down with six rebounds and dished out two assists in the game.

On Saturday, the Cardinals lost to Empire 8 leader Ithaca College (18-4, 10-1 E8) by just nine points (75-66), a vast improvement from the season’s earlier 32-point defeat to the Bombers.  In that contest, the guard finished with five points and two rebounds, as she helped Fisher put up a strong fight against the visiting team.

Fisher (11-11, 7-4), who currently sits in third place of the Empire 8 Conference, will return to action at 6 p.m. on Friday night, as it welcomes the Stevens Ducks to Bobby Wanzer Court.
