St. John Fisher College has named Kelly Greapentrog as the head coach for the Cardinals’ volleyball program.
Greapentrog (pronounced GREEP-en-trog) has been serving as the team’s interim head coach since December and takes over the program from James Chan, who resigned at the end of last year after a five-year stint.
Greapentrog served as an assistant coach under Chan for each of the last two seasons and helped the Cardinals advance to the postseason in both campaigns.
Greapentrog, formerly Kelly Kochems, will guide a volleyball program that has enjoyed immense success since its inception in 1973. In volleyball’s first 10 years at Fisher, the Cardinals composed a 386-72 record, while winning 76 consecutive matches over a two-year span.
Over the last 23 years, Fisher has appeared in the postseason in all but one year and has twice advanced to the NCAA Division III Championship.
Prior to coaching at Fisher, Greapentrog was the head coach at Erie Community College for three years and led the Kats to a NJCAA Region III title in her first campaign.
She has also coached at the club level, serving as the head coach for the Western New York Storm for eight years.
A 2002 graduate of Buffalo State College, Greapentrog played four seasons of volleyball for the Bengals and served as the team captain in her final two years.
In addition to her coaching position at Fisher, Greapentrog serves as the administrative assistant to the athletic director at McQuaid Jesuit.
